Printing Methods We are entering a film-less printing world. In this digital age, computer to plate (also known as Direct to Plate) is the future of printing. It is more efficient, more accurate and generally less expensive. a Film Based In a film based process, information can be disturbed. Variations creep in as people work with a medium that picks up fingerprints, dust and scratches and is sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. a Computer to Plate (CTP or Direct to Plate) In CTP, information remains in the digital domain (in the form of a computer file), until the last possible moment. The same file is used for the design, proofs and the final plates. Last minute changes are possible and less costly. CTP also allows tighter registration of plates on the press, as the process is more accurate than plates created in the film process. CTP offers predictable presswork, faster make-readies, intense colour saturation and greater tone control. The result is the imaging of finer detail, matching reprints, and integrity of information a graphic designers and press operators dream. a Computer to Plate (CTP or Direct to Plate)
